Fun Fall Activity Ideas for Preschoolers

activity ideas for preschoolers

The fall season is a wonderful time to get out and about and have a bit of fun with your preschool aged kids. The season almost seems to be made for them! There are so many things to do and learn that one could write an entire book on the subject. While we don’t have room for a full on book just yet, we do have five fantastic activity ideas for preschoolers during this beautiful fall season that will thrill and excite them. Here they are in no particular order of preference:

Catch those falling leaves

Leaves are fascinating to preschoolers and particularly so when they are falling from the tops of the trees. Find a nice big area that has a large enough tree and play the game of catching them as they fall to the ground. This will help with hand-eye coordination and also keep them laughing and having a blast. You might enjoy it yourself. Just be sure to take safety precautions by checking for holes in the ground and things they might bump into.

Go on a farm animal tour

Farm animals and preschoolers are a perfect mix if you find a farm that provides these tours. It allows the kids to learn all about farming, animals and how things are made. The best way to find these tours during the fall season (the big season for this industry) is to look them up online. You should be able to locate some in your area.

Take a hayride

Those very same farms that give animal tours might just also offer up hayrides. What is more fun during the fall season than taking a hayride around a beautiful area? The kids love it and the adults can join in the fun and relax for a bit as well.

Go apple picking

When you head out to an apple orchard in the fall, there is a special feeling. It is one of comfort, growth and excitement. The apples are perfect and smell exhilarating and your preschooler will absolutely love going through and picking out the best ones. Apple picking is a ton of fun!

Rake and run through

This is a fun game that should only be done with adult supervision. Basically you help to rake up leaves and make a big pile and then you take turns running through the pile. Nothing is more fun than jumping around and blasting through a pile of leaves. That said, you have to take the time to go through the leaves carefully and remove any sticks, sharp things and dangers of any kind. That can be time consuming but it is well worth the fun in the end. Always stand by and if you have goggles they can wear, all the better for added safety.
