Five Ways to Have a Frugal Christmas This Season

frugal Christmas

For whatever reasons, going frugal at Christmas has always been frowned upon by some people but some years, whether we want to or not, it is just the way it has to be. We did it a few years back out of necessity and it was a good thing in the end. We kept things focused on the meaning of the season rather than commercial interests. That said, you can have the best of both worlds and still be frugal. Here are five powerful tips to help you on your way this holiday season:

Give of Yourself

Your time and your efforts are worthwhile and they are wonderful gifts. You can volunteer at any number of places as a gift, you can donate your organizational skills to a family member as a gift, babysitting, cooking, teaching a talent, etc. Simply look at your talents and ask what you can give to others. Ideas will flow like egg nog and you will not be spending a ton of cash to do it.

Make It About The Holiday

This is a concept but it is an important one. If you want, forget the presents, the expensive trips and the other things that cost money. Instead, focus on time together, love and family. You will not miss the other one bit and you might even learn a thing or two about happiness.

Pot Luck For Parties and Gatherings

Obviously if you are hosting a Christmas party or gathering, you are shouldering some expenses. That said, why not make the food a potluck where everyone brings a dish? You will save a great deal of money and everyone will get to add a taste of the holiday.

Be Willing to Say No

If you have kids, I don’t have to explain this one. If you have a pushy mother in law, well….you get the idea.

Have a Dollar Store Christmas

This is a wonderful way to enjoy a Christmas holiday without spending big bucks. A frugal way to have fun is for everyone in the family to get twenty bucks and buy for everyone else at the Dollar Store. Then go home and wrap them up in newspaper and stuff the tree full like Santa Claus. Ripping and stripping is just as fun this way and you can have a good time without spending a mortgage payment.
