School of rock

WOW!!!! That is the single first word that comes to my mind if you were to ask me “how was The School Of Rock show?”

To be completely honest, I have not seen the movie, so, though I had an idea of what the show was about, I didn’t have a lot of hard pressed expectations.

Before the curtains even opened….. they disclosed, this little fun fact:

They often get asked if the children are really playing the instrument in the performance and they gave a confident YES!!!!! Yes, all the talent that these children create is real and true!

If you are not aware of the story line, there is an adult man Dewey  (Merritt David James) who channels Jack Black perfectly… he is a down on his luck freeloader, that has dreams of being a big time band member. Though he still lives with his best friend and his over bearing girlfriend, he hopes to make it big one day. One day, Dewey stumbles upon a very unethical opportunely to impersonate his best friend as a substitute teacher.

When he starts his “job” he discovered that these highly educated, wealthy students had the most amazing hidden talent to embrace rock and roll. Through love, encouragement, and fun, these kids rose above to shine during the “battle of the bands”. Though the parents were not amused by the charades, they soon discovered that their children were special and deserved to be listened to and have their talents embraced.

While watching this production, I couldn’t help but put my own children in their place. The thought of my kids being a quadruple threat was mind shattering to say the least…. heck, I am shocked if they remember to pick up the bathroom after the shower….. maybe my expectations are far too low!

But, these children, will simply send chills up your spine!

If you LOVE Broadway musicals as much as I do and have been waiting for the right show to introduce your love to your children, then this is the perfect show to share with them. I know it can be hard to find musicals that are “appropriate” but this show (minus a few PG words) would be great for the whole family.
