How to Treat Your Old Scars and Make Them Less Visible

Scars can vary in size and severity, they can be large and disruptive, or small and faint. Every scar has a story; however, some individuals don’t want a daily reminder of this story. Sometimes the story behind your mark is just as painful as the injury itself. Other times you may just be uncomfortable with the cosmetic damage this scar has caused.

No matter the case, there’s a solution to suit every scar and every need. Some require extensive treatment, whilst some can be covered up with a matter of hours. Once you have a scar, you may think it’s there to stay forever. Thankfully, there are now various methods you can employ to treat old scars and make them less visible.

Bio Oil

Bio oil is a cosmetic oil made up of ingredients such as rosemary, calendula, chamomile, and rosemary. With regular application, bio oil can help improve the appearance of both new and old scars, including burn, surgical, and acne scars.

Scar Massage

Research shows that massaging the skin can increase blood flow, release beneficial hormones and facilitate the remodeling of the scar structure. Not only this but it can help reduce pain, itchiness, or even anxiety related to the injury.

Fillers

Dermal filler injections, like hyaluronic acid, are also used to help cover up the cosmetic damage of a scar. Although this won’t remove the scar permanently, it can help boost the production of collagen and improve the overall appearance of the scar.

Laser Therapy

Laser treatment or therapy can be used to treat the damaged scar tissue, improve pigmentation, and reduce redness or swelling. This treatment typically entails three to five different sessions which are spaced out at least one week apart from each other.

Coconut Oil

Another natural remedy used to improve the appearance of scars is coconut oil. This multi-purpose remedy is said to boost natural college production and minimize scarring. It can also even out skin tones and reduce redness.

Chemical Peel

Another popular option for improving the appearance of facial scars is a chemical peel. This is typically used for acne scarring, ice pick scars, or mid rolling scars. A chemical solution is applied to your face which allows the outer layer of old skin to be peeled off.

Make-Up

Make-up may not be a permanent solution to your scarring, but it works great as a last-minute solution. If you have a special occasion and you want to cover up your scars, you can invest in high-quality and water-proof makeup, like concealer or foundation, to cover up any imperfections.

If you happen to get injured again, make sure to prevent a deep scar from forming in the first place. The faster you get to treating your scars, the less visible they will be in the future. If you’ve left it too late, don’t worry there are still a few solutions that can help you take care of your skin and cosmetic appearance.
