I can’t believe I’m finally getting to write this….. but BROADWAY IS BACK! That’s right, we can finally enjoy theater again, because there is nothing more exhilarating than live music, dancing and a captivation story. I can’t think of a better show that the classic Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar to open the 2021-2022 Broadway in Portland season with.

You will want to bring a sweater to this show, because you will feel nothing but chills. When Aaron LaVigne –Jesus sings you will be astounded. His voice is soothing, strong and will completely draw you in. I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by his performance. He expressed to the audience, the pain, the passion and love his character felt and radiated that to the audience.

The balance of good and evil was done perfect, as you follow the last few weeks that Jesus experienced. You will live the betrayal of Judas through his eyes, giving you a unique and different point of view.
If you’re new to this musical, know should that this show is 100% song and dance, which I love! You will get to enjoy classic favorites like ,‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’.

This breathtaking final scene of the last few hours of Jesus will have you feeling so many emotions you won’t know what to do with yourself. The cast did an amazing job of bringing you to near tears as you are consumed by the moment.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR has launched a new North American Tour! Helmed by the acclaimed director Timothy Sheader and cutting-edge choreographer Drew McOnie, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, selling out two consecutive engagements in 2016 and 2017.

Snopsis
Aaron LaVigne returns to his role as Jesus, joined by the return of James T. Justis as Judas and Jenna Rubaii as Mary. The tour also welcomes back Alvin Crawford as Caiphas, Tommy Sherlock as Pilate, and Tyce Green as Annas. Christian A. Guerrero joins the cast as standby for Jesus and Judas.
The ensemble includes David Andre, Sara Andreas, Courtney Arango, Wesley J. Barnes, Milena J. Comeau, Lydia Ruth Dawson, Derek Ferguson, Brian Golub, Brittany Rose Hammond, Garfield Hammonds, Quiana Holmes, Darrell T. Joe, Sheila Jones, Jacob Lacopo, Paul Louis Lessard, Eric A. Featuring lyrics and music by Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the North American tour of this iconic musical is helmed by acclaimed director Timothy Sheader and cutting-edge choreographer Drew McOnie. Rounding out the creative team is set and costume design by 2016 Tony Award nominee Tom Scutt, lighting design by Lee Curran, sound design by Keith Caggiano and Nick Lidster, with music supervision by Tom Deering and North American music supervisor David Holcenberg.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is a proven musical phenomenon with a world-wide fan base. As demonstrated by NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, this epic work attracted over 9.6 million viewers, earned the highest ratings in its time period, and received the highest critical ranking of any live musical event on network TV. On September 17th, 2021 a variety of special edition Jesus Christ Superstar albums, remastered at Abbey Road, will be released. These special anniversary editions are a celebration of the original 1970 double concept album and its continued success spanning an incredible 50 years.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, selling out two consecutive engagements in 2016 and 2017. The production played a West End engagement at the Barbican in 2019 before returning to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in concert version during the summer of 2020.
The North American tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is produced by Stephen Gabriel and Work Light Productions, and will have traveled to more than 50 cities during its three-year run. The original production was produced by London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Covid Health & Safety Policy
In an effort to protect the health and wellbeing of Broadway in Portland patrons, artists and staff, proof of full vaccination with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine will be required for entry at Keller Auditorium.
Patrons unable to be vaccinated will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to the performance or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to the performance.
Patrons will be required to show a valid ID along with vaccine/test documentation. “Fully vaccinated” means your performance is at least 14 days after your final vaccine dose. To enter the theatre, please bring a photo ID and proof of vaccination, either your physical vaccination card, a picture of your vaccination card, or a digital vaccination record.
Patrons unable to be vaccinated, including children under 12, or those who need reasonable accommodations due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief that prevents vaccination will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to the performance, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to the performance.
