Huntington Learning Center Tutoring

As a parent, you try hard to help your children succeed in every aspect of their life. You personally feel their successes and their struggles right along with them. So when you see your child sitting at the table struggling and digging deep to try and get that new math chapter to click or find the words to express themselves during a writing assignment, it can pull on your heart-strings.

I personally have 6 children and have noticed that they ALL have very different learning styles and abilities. Despite your parenting, your child may have a natural talent to understand and retain all education that is given to them, but honestly, most children have to work to understand and soak in their new found knowledge in one subject or another.

We are personally struggling with the “see-saw” effect. Every year my 8 year old starts off below grade level, works very hard throughout the year to play catch up only to slip back behind over the summer all over again. This unfortunately is VERY common. Those 3 months off during the summer can equate to a 6-9 month loss in education grade level.

To try and break this cycle I visited the Huntington Learning Center. This learning center has helped tens of thousands of children by creating a very custom tutoring plan tailored specifically to your child. How they do this is by having them come in for a special one on one placement testing. This 2 hour test will use a whole host of accredited and tested tools that will give you and your tutor a very in-depth and multi angle idea of your child’s strengths and challenges.

After my son completed his test, the instructor compiled all data into a very comprehensive analysis of my child’s current academic abilities. In a few days, I had come back for a sit down, one on one discussion of his current status and what recommended plan of action they think would be the best fit for him.

Previously, I only had the knowledge of my son’s skills from what I have actually witnesses and of course what I have been told by his teachers through parent-teacher conferences twice a year. Since Huntington Learning Center they used many gauging tools and tests, I was able to receive a very multi-dimensional look at his skill and what is already clicking very well for him. It was amazing to see where he was really shining and what sparked his interest.

To much of my surprise, there were areas that he REALLY excelled in, ranking a few grades above his level…. this also balanced by his struggles and areas that fell below grade level. These tests gave a really great perspective to his learning style and how he processes new information.

With their diagnostic evaluation, they have managed to curate a customized plan that will strengthen his weaknesses and enhance his strengths. Depending on his needs, they will either offer him one on one sessions or a group session (not to exceed a 4-1 ratio). They had felt, to break that “see-saw” cycle and have him feel confident and ready for the next school year that he should be enrolled in 100 hours of prescribed learning. I was given options to take this recommendation at a pace that would be comfortable for me and my child.

Each study session would either be broken into 1.5 or 2 hour sessions and attend either 2-4 of those sessions a week. Obviously, for more intense progress, the more often you would need to attend.
