I have reached a new milestone yet again with my children! My oldest son just got his first car, a sporty looking little sedan that is as old as he is….. LOL. Non the less, this is a proud magical moment and memory that is going to stick with him for the rest of his life. To top it all off he has gotten an amazing opportunity for a working internship and I couldn’t be more excited or proud of him….. but with this comes him going on the freeway during rush hour and travel downtown…. even I don’t like going downtown.
I have had Life360 (a free app) downloaded on mine and my families phones for over a year now. The app has been wonderful for all sorts of situations.. ETA’s on flights, letting kids walk to friends houses, family vacations, large amusement parks… even Christmas shopping. You can now add one more to that list.
No matter how many times I had asked my son to text me when he gets to work, he would ALWAYS forget. Then I would struggle with… do I text, do I wait…what if he is already working, I don’t want to interrupt, is he okay….? I had just seen this scary educational video about texting and driving and how just the mother texting to ask “are you there yet” is a huge distraction and could be a cause of an accident because the child is compelled to not only look but respond because after all… it is their parent.
Now to ease my mind, and allow for 100% text free distraction driving I am able to see if and when he has made it to his destination safe and sound. It is a win-win for everyone…. I am in the know and can let my mind rest and he won’t have an inbox full of annoying text asking “are you there yet?” “why didn’t you text me to let me know you made it safe?”
