It can be overwhelming at times, but it’s worth it. It can be difficult, especially if it’s your first time traveling outside of your home country or continent! Here are some tips to help make sure you have an unforgettable adventure abroad!

1. Rental Cars and Camper Vans

When traveling it might be a good idea to rent a car. If you’re on a tight budget campervans will be your best bet! Rental cars and vans offer more freedom than public transportation, while still giving you the ability to sleep in them under certain conditions. For ease of travel, look at campers under 1500 lbs. You can even find electric car rentals depending on the country you’re visiting!

2. Research the Destination

Once you know which location you’re planning on visiting, it’s time to do some research on the city, town, or country in general! This is especially important if this is your first time traveling somewhere with vastly different customs than back home. As you’re researching, ask yourself these questions:

-What is the climate like? Do I need to plan for heavy clothing and boots during the winter months? Or bring lots of sunscreens and light clothing?

-What kind of food do they eat there typically?

-What kind of transport options are available? Is it safe to be walking around by myself or should I hire a car service or take public transportation?

-Are there certain customs that are different than what I’m used to at home, like tipping for example?

The more you know about the place you’re visiting, the better. You’ll be able to settle in quicker and enjoy your days exploring instead of wondering how they do things differently there!

3. Stick to a Budget

It’s important not to spend too much on shopping or activities while traveling. If you want to stick to a strict budget, consider using a budgeting app to track your spending. It’s also good to remember that souvenirs don’t need to be big or expensive – pick up some postcards or keychains from the places you visit, and keep them as long-lasting mementos of your trip!

4. Stay Safe

Keeping yourself safe while traveling shouldn’t be too difficult – but it’s something you shouldn’t ignore either! When I’m traveling in a country with a different language than my own, I always ask the locals about the safety of certain areas before venturing out on my own.

If you’re traveling alone, stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Make sure you aren’t walking into dark alleyways at night or if you’re taking a late bus. Stay social with your friends and tell them where you are going at all times, and make sure they know how to reach you if anything goes wrong!

5. Look for Deals

No matter where you go or how long your trip is, remember that there are always ways to save money. Search travel websites to find coupons or discounts for attractions, food, or shopping in the area. Look for hostels to get the best prices on lodging. Don’t forget to use things like Airbnb to save money when booking an apartment long-term, or to book cheaper day tours to see all the major attractions in the area!

6. Pack Lightly

The less you pack, the better. Believe me – you’ll be glad when you arrive at your destination and don’t have to deal with lugging an oversized suitcase behind you. Instead of bringing a bunch of clothes that may not even be worn, consider bringing fewer items but in different colors. If you don’t have room for a lot of shoes, try just bringing one pair of comfortable walking shoes and one nicer pair of heels if necessary. Leave some space open to pick up souvenirs at your destination too!
