I was a victim of the shadowban epidemic that is spreading like wildfire…. however, you may have been shadowbanned for awhile and haven’t even know.

I knew something was wrong with my twitter account back in November of 2016 when I went to my first red carpet Disney event for Moana, however I had no clue what that problem was. While tweeting and retweeting with the group and using the event hashtag, I had a couple bloggers asking, “Are you tweeting?” of course I was…. I was tweeting my fingers off. Then I had someone someone say “Hmmmm, I am not seeing your tweets”. I was concerned but had no idea where to turn and figured the twittervers is a large space and with Moana being super huge at the moment, I figured all my tweets were just getting lost in the shuffle.

After going home I never really gave it much of a thought… my numbers were staying the same and I still got a fair amount of engagement either through chore threads or roundteam.

The biggest reason many will dismiss that nothing is wrong with their twitter account is YOU WILL STILL SEE YOU OWN TWEETS IN THE TWEET FEED!!!!!

It wasn’t till I went on my next Disney event just this last August that I experience the same problem… nobody could see me and EVEN MORE, when they searched @dazzlingdeal on twitter, I didn’t even show up as an account…. EVEN IF THEY FOLLOWED ME!

So, first, how to you find out if you are shadowbanned?

This is the message you will get if you have a current shadowban on your account. if you see this, I suggest you screenshot it for your records.

Steps to take to remove the shadowban on twitter

1. Skip emailing twitter in their “general” contact us form. They WILL NOT respond, they even say so in the small print.
2. You should however contact the ads department and submit a support ticket. You will usually get a response within 2-3 days (It will also take that long for back and forth correspondence, so make your emails very informational).
3. Be very direct with them, (they seem to dance around the issue of shadowban and suggest other issues for why you are not being seen) Let them know that you are shadowbanned and are working on a campaign that is wanting to place an ad but you can not or will not pay if your account is blocked (money talks). To skip a step, ask them to send you a secure link to send them visual documentation. ( they do not accept and links or upload through email communication)
4. In your documentation. I would include the screenshot of your shadowban and a timeline comparison like the images below. In these images I showed them that yes, I can see my tweets in my own feed but in others they are hidden.

I think having this side- by- side comparison helped my case. This was their final response after going back and forth for almost a month.

I hope this answers any questions you have, please check to see if you are shadowbanned because you will not get notification from twitter and everything will look just fine on your end. I now check weekly to make sure I am still up and active.
