Five Fourth of July Safety Tips for Kids

4th of july safety

Like any other holiday, the Fourth of July can be a very dangerous time for kids. More people, fireworks and countless other dangers can be a real problem if you don’t take some precautions for the little ones. If you have little ones or will be around others who do, taking some basic steps to protect them is an important part of your Fourth of July celebration. Here are some Fourth of July safety tips to follow:

Bring Along Some Ear Plugs For Fireworks

Fireworks are extremely loud and particularly so if you are going to the larger firework shows. Bringing along some ear plugs can make a huge difference for kids and adults alike. Make sure that you get proper fitting ear plugs, however, because poor fitting ones will do more damage than good.

Make Sure Your Kid Has and ID Badge

ID badges are a must during any holiday event simply because so many strangers are around. If you are attending a fireworks show or anything like that, you need to make sure your kid has all the right information on him or her. This can literally save their lives. Also make sure you go over everything with them. Stranger danger is real.

Keep Kids Far Away From Any Launch Areas

Fireworks are a huge part of the problem where kids and injuries are concerned. If you let them wander around while you shoot off fireworks, there is a much higher chance of serious injury. Keep them back and safely behind some type of protective wall or area.

Make Sure Kids Never Touch Ignition/Fireworks/Leftovers

The majority of problems that parents run into with kids are after the fireworks are shot. If you don’t clean up afterwards, the debris can cause all kinds of problems. From swallowing dangerous materials to choking, leftover fireworks can be a major problem. Fireworks that don’t go off initially can sometimes spark later on so be sure to dispose of them properly.

Always Clean Up Well After Launch/Parties

Launch parties are a great deal of fun, but as mentioned above they can be dangerous. This is true for not only your own kids, but the kids that live nearby. Make sure every firework is accounted for and that responsible adults are the ones that are setting them off.

Keeping the kids safe is not as complicated as you might think. Just use common sense and you will be in great shape this Fourth of July weekend.
