Five Important Tips for Freshmen in High School

Tips for Freshmen in High School

Going from middle school to high school is not an easy thing to do in the best of circumstances. You are completely jumping into an entirely new social atmosphere and setting. How quickly and comfortably you adjust will be a big factor in how well you do your freshman year. Here are five tips for freshmen in high school that will help you to have an awesome freshman year:

Commit to finishing things early

When you first start high school, you will notice one thing right off the bat. Things move at a much quicker pace. Homework, classwork, learning, classes and everything else will begin to feel a little overwhelming if you don’t attack it. Don’t wait to do things. Finish homework early. Finish projects early. Get to class early. You will be glad to stay on top of things and it will become a very good habit.

Don’t boast

Bragging is the one trait that will be universally despised. You will find most people find it to be uncomfortable by every group of people if you come in arrogant. Instead, be humble and open to folks. Give yourself a fighting chance and simply be about others instead of yourself.

Make friends with everyone you can

If you go into high school looking for only one group of friends or people, you will find them. The problem is, you will be categorized and put in that little box. Instead, be friendly with everyone. Try to make acquaintances across all social circles. Reach out and be a person that brings people together.

Use your ears more than your mouth

If you manage to listen more than you speak, you will be in far better shape. This is a very shaky social playground when you enter high school. What you say can most certainly damage you so choose your words carefully. Listening, however, and learning about people will never hurt you. Think about it.

Challenge yourself academically

Some folks take the “least amount needed to graduate” route and they almost always end up regretting it. Go for the tough classes. Nail the hard clubs and sports. Go after the gusto! It will look great on your college applications and you need to stretch your learning capabilities. This doesn’t mean to take courses you are not qualified for. It simply means to choose the tougher routes on occasion and show your capabilities. If you need assistance with this new challenge, you could always turn to a tutoring service like Smile Tutor where you can get same day tutoring.
