Universal Studios – Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem Ride Turned Us Into Minions!

In a world where 3-D motion simulator rides are becoming fairly commonplace, Universal Studio’s Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem has stood high above many of the others.  Released back in 2012 at the height of Minion Mania, this ride has continued to be one of the most popular attractions at the park. If you are looking for a really fun ride that will be enjoyed by most everyone, this is the ride to check out. From the beginning to the end, you will find yourself totally immersed in Minion world.

What is a 3-D motion simulator?

In the case of Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, it is a ride that literally moves beneath you as you watch a High Definition Screen in strikingly realistic 3-D. When the action requires that you lean left, you do so literally. When you are falling,  you lean forward. Because of the motion of the ride, there is a 40 inch limit size wise. The good news is that even those wee folks and those that get motion sick have options. You can get a version that sits still and doesn’t jolt your lunch if you please or have kids that won’t fit the requirements.

What is the general idea?

The ride is set one year ahead of the kids being adopted by arch-villain Gru and all the minions are there. The girls are celebrating that anniversary. Meant to serve as a sequel to the movie. It all begins when you enter the house of Gru. All around you can see his history, the quirky nature of his life and other fun and exctiing things. It is a nice diversion while you are waiting in line and it sets up the ride. Once inside, you are taken through a story that converts you into a minion as well. You then go through a training of sorts and end up trying to survive a mission.

Tips for enjoying Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem

Riding the minion is all about wait time. The ride opens at the same time as the park and closes when they close. Those are the two best times to get short ride times. The park is open from 8AM-10PM and you can expect roughly 20-30 minute wait times for the hour before and after they open. In between, you will be looking at roughly an hour per wait.

Try to sit near the back if you can for optimal vision. The seats are layered so you will have an unobstructed view, but you will strain your eyes a bit up close. The front cars are a bit much on the eyes.

Keep in mind that the ride is new and one of the
first thing everyone whats to ride when they come into the park so be ready to hop in line right away for low wait times.
