Night Activities for Kids

During the summer there are days when it’s just too hot in the house to remain indoors at night. Fortunately, there are some great things for kids to do outside. Here are some suggestions to keep kids busy on hot summer nights with these night activities for kids.

Night Activities for Kids

Have any want to-be spies? If so, consider getting them some night vision goggles. Wild Planet Spy Gear Night Goggles puts out a reasonably priced set of goggles with two built-in bright blue LED lights. Children can go on secret night missions with the ability to see up to 25′ in the dark.

Young and old alike enjoy a good game of frisbee. A glow-in-the-dark frisbee allows kids to play outdoors at night. One popular one is the Nite Glow Ultrastar – Glow in the Dark Flying Disc Made in the USA made by Discraft. Another is the Nite Ize L.E.D. Light up Flying Disc by the Discovery Channel. FYI caution should be taken if younger children are running around in the dark. It might be best to at least have the area dimly lit to make sure that kids don’t run into anything.

Stargazing is a wonderful way for kids to learn about the universe we live in. There are a couple of different ways to go about this. With children using binoculars, this could be an educational way for them to learn about the stars, planets and various consolations.

Another approach is to allow kids to use their imaginations and let them make up their own constellations. With each constellation they create, have them tell a story. How did the constellation come to be? Who might possibly live there? Once back inside, they can even draw out their constellations and start a collection of them.

Pretend to go camping. Get a small outdoor grill. Have kids gather around it and give each of them some glow sticks. Tell some scary ghost stories while making S’mores. If looking for something on the quieter side, the Crayola Glow Station Day & Night allows children to draw in the dark.

Playing hide and seek with flashlights can be entertaining. If looking to cool kids down, fill up some water balloons and have them play catch. Be sure there is enough light for the children to be able to see the water balloons.

On those nights when it’s just too hot to stay indoors, have some gear on hand and plan for some fun outdoor night activities for kids. From pretending to be spies, frisbees, the night sky and kids’ imaginations, there are a lot of fun night activities for kids that can keep them busy and happy.
