Television often doesn’t show the whole story when it comes to raising children, and it can be challenging to relate to. However, there are a few gems that are perfect for even the toughest of days.

American Housewife

Created by Sarah Dunn and co-executive produced with Aaron Kaplan, American Housewife is a sitcom series that debuted in 2016. It follows the story of Katie, a confident and strong mother who is raising her flawed family in a town full of other “perfect” wives and children. With five current seasons, each with around 23 episodes, you’ll have plenty to binge!

 

Little Fires Everywhere

Starring Reece Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, Little Fires Everywhere is a drama created by Liz Tigelaar and is based on the book by Celeste Ng. It follows the story of a seemingly picture-perfect family, with a mother and daughter who upend their lives. Each episode uncovers more and more truth as you discover the ferocious pull of motherhood. It’s certainly a series that will have you wanting more and more.

 

Black-ish

A Sitcom created by Kenya Barris, Black-ish has seven seasons and has prompted a variety of spin-offs due to its success. The story followers an African American couple as they deal with various personal and socio-political issues while raising their kids in a predominantly white neighborhood. With both comedy and drama to keep us on the edge of our seats, it’s one show that is certainly worth a binge-watch. 

 

The Letdown

An Australian comedy series, the Letdown, created by Sarah Scheller and Alison Bell, follows the story of a new mum. Dealing with sleeplessness, relationship issues, and her own family issues, Audrey navigates the different struggles of motherhood. With two current seasons, you can relate to her journey while enjoying some laughs along the way. 

 

The Goldberg’s

Created by Adam F. Goldberg, The Goldberg’s contains eight seasons and is one of the most popular American sitcoms. Based on Adam’s own childhood, the show is full of plenty of laughs and beautiful moments, as it follows the life of a family and their children. If you’re looking for a great show to binge-watch, then it’s is definitely a winner.

 

SMILF

Following the life of a single mom in South Boston, SMILF shows Bridgette Bird trying to make a better life for her son. Created by Frankie Shaw and executive producer Lee Eisenberg, this comedy reveals what it’s like to be a mother and co-parent all through what has been described as a “raw and unfiltered lens.”
